Rainbow Rice

I saw this idea and instantly fell in love with it for the daycare! There are so many reasons I love this activity.
  • We LOVE bright colors around here
  • We love identifying colors
  • We love sensory activities
  • We LOVE anything that makes Miss Lindsay have to vacuum (seriously you want to see a daycare room full of happy kids, turn on a vacuum apparently it is very entertaining!)

Now....Do you think the colors stayed separated for long? Nope, of course not! It kind of made me laugh because we took all the time dying each color, drying it and separating them in the container and then within seconds it was a mixed creation!

Here's what you need....
  • A plastic tub (I love the ones with lids so you can cover it when necessary)
  • 4 cups of rice (For each color)
  • 2 TBSP Rubbing alcohol
  • 1TBSP food coloring (I will be trying this with liquid watercolors next time)
We put the rice in zip locks, added the rubbing alcohol and food coloring and then made sure they were sealed tightly and let the kids mix them. This was a fun activity for the kids also because they got to see the rice slowly change color the more they squeezed it, shook it and rubbed it. Then all you need to do is lay it out on a flat surface to dry.

Super easy and Super fun!
